Set up Reddit monitoring for a SaaS: a product walkthrough

By ReplySignal · Updated

This walkthrough uses an illustrative Shopify inventory SaaS to show the actual ReplySignal setup. Screenshots show the current product components with demonstration input and local fixture data. The product and example posts are fictional; this is not a customer case study, a live monitoring run, or evidence of sales results.

1. Turn the product into a specific monitoring task

The illustrative product helps Shopify merchants plan replenishment. The task is to find store owners asking how to decide when to reorder after repeated stockouts. This excludes shoppers asking when an item will be available and vendors announcing their own tools.

Start with one problem you can help solve. Finding a relevant discussion gives you a place to listen and possibly contribute; it does not prove the author is a qualified buyer.

2. Enter the brief and choose whether you need reply drafts

Open Create monitor and choose “Skip URL and enter manually.” Enter the matching brief in “What posts should this monitor find?” You can also start with a product website, then review and edit the prepared text before continuing.

For this walkthrough, reply drafts are off. This lets you test discussion relevance without supplying a product description. If you enable drafts, enter accurate product information separately so the draft can describe what your product actually does.

3. Review and select communities before starting

Choose “Confirm details and choose communities.” For this example, inspect r/shopify and r/ecommerce as candidates. Read their recent discussions and current rules yourself; their inclusion here is not an endorsement or a statement about current activity.

Choose communities because their users discuss the problem, then review the selection before clicking Create monitor. The screenshot shows a demonstration selection, not a measured coverage report. You are not asked to enter keywords or set a score threshold.

4. Decide which posts are worth opening

After a real monitor runs, review matched posts and open their original threads. Check who is asking, whether the problem fits, and whether the conversation still needs help. A numeric match score helps order your review; it does not verify buying intent.

The examples below are invented to demonstrate manual qualification. They were not fetched from Reddit or scored by the model.

Illustrative review decisions, not live results
Invented discussionReview decisionNext step
“My Shopify best seller keeps selling out. How do you decide when to reorder?”Potential fit: audience and problem match.Open the original thread and check what help has already been offered.
“Can someone tell me when these shoes will be restocked?”Exclude: shopper availability question. If these recur, make the store-owner audience clearer in the brief.
“We launched a new inventory app. Try it today.”Exclude: vendor announcement. If these recur, strengthen the exclusion for promotional announcements.

5. Write a useful answer and review it yourself

A useful answer to the first invented discussion might suggest checking sales velocity, supplier lead times, and a replenishment buffer before choosing software. Ask for missing context rather than assuming a tool is the answer. If you mention your product, disclose your connection and explain the specific fit.

If you later enable ReplySignal drafts, review every statement against your product capabilities and the thread. ReplySignal does not publish replies. Follow each community’s rules and do not post promotions where they are prohibited.

6. Keep a review log before calling this a success

Record the date, community, original post URL, relevance decision, response action, and any observed outcome. Review off-target posts to decide whether the brief or source selection needs changing. A match count is a measure of review volume, not acquired customers.

A real case study would need a documented monitoring period, actual discussions, review decisions, and attributable outcomes with permission to publish. This demonstration supplies none of those outcome claims. Use it to set up your own workflow and collect evidence.

  • What share of reviewed posts fits the intended audience and problem?
  • Which exclusions or communities account for irrelevant results?
  • Did your response help the discussion, based on observable replies?
  • Were any signups or sales attributable to these conversations?
